Wild Prune Tomato
Wild Prune is an open pollinated, high anthocyanin beefsteak variety of unknown origin but thought to have originated in Eastern Europe. Thoroughly delicious flavour profile.
Origin: European future heirloom / open pollinated variety, widely circulated through French, German, and Eastern European seed networks.
Breeder / Lineage Status: The precise initial breeder and specific ancestral cross formula remain unknown. However, its physical traits place it within modern anthocyanin selection lines developed from crosses between dark blue/purple shoulders stock and multi toned or marbled beefsteak/slicing parents
Growth Habit: Indeterminate, regular leaf vining plants with strong, vigorous growth reaching 1.8 to 2 metres in height
Maturity: Mid season, around 120 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit
Fruit Type & Size: Medium sized round slicers to beefsteaks, weighing approximately 150g to 200g.
Colouration: Striking multicoloured exterior featuring a pink, orange, and yellow base heavily overlaid with dark indigo/purple anthocyanin pigments on the shoulders. Under strong sunlight exposure, the upper shoulders turn almost solid black. Inside, the flesh is dense, orange and often streaked with red
Flavour Profile: Exceptionally rich, sweet, and mild with sweet caramel undertones and a balanced acid finish
