Tigret Red Micro Dwarf Tomato (10-15 seeds)

The 'Tigret Red' tomato is a fascinating and highly popular variety, particularly for those with limited space. It's a "micro dwarf" tomato but could also be considered a "dwarf" as we are not talking 20cm high plants here.

Plant and Growth:

  • Micro Dwarf/Determinate: As a micro dwarf, the plant has a very compact, bushy growth habit. It is a determinate variety, meaning it grows to a set height and then produces its fruit in a concentrated period.

  • Size: Tigret Red typically reaches a height of only 40-50cm, though some plants may grow up to 60-70 cm in very good conditions.

  • Foliage: One of its most distinctive features is its unique, chartreuse-lime green foliageThe leaves are also described as "rugose," which means they have a wrinkled or bumpy texture.

  • Support and Pruning: Because of its small size and sturdy stems, Tigret Red generally does not require major staking or support. A single small cane will suffice for larger plants. It also doesn't need to be pruned, making it a very low-maintenance plant.

Fruit and Flavour:

  • Appearance: The tomatoes are a vibrant red with eye-catching golden-yellow stripes. They are considered large cherry or cocktail tomatoes, typically weighing between 15-45 grams. Their shape is round or oval.

  • Taste: The flavour is generally sweet and well-balanced, with a good texture that is neither too mushy nor too crispy. The flesh can have a dark crimson colour.

  • Yield: Despite its tiny size, the plant is very productive, yielding a surprisingly large number of tomatoes.

Growing Conditions:

  • Ideal for Containers: The Tigret Red is the perfect "pot tomato" and is a top choice for container gardening, windowsills, patios, or balconies, ideally a 2-3 litre pot but larger plants would benefit from a 5-8 litre pot.

  • Sunlight: Like all tomatoes, it thrives in a location with full sun.

  • Maturity: This is an early-maturing variety, with fruits typically ready for harvest around 120-130 days from seed sowing

  • Origin: The variety originated in the Netherlands.

'Tigret Red' is a highly ornamental and productive tomato that is ideal for anyone with limited space, offering delicious, visually appealing fruit on a remarkably compact plant.
