Southern Sparkle Tomato (10-15 seeds)
The 'Southern Sparkle' tomato variety is a visually striking and flavourful tomato that has gained attention among gardeners.
Origin: It's a relatively recent variety developed by Blane Horton in the USA, who is known for his unique "antho" (anthocyanin) tomatoes.
Appearance: This is where 'Southern Sparkle' truly shines! The fruits have an anthocyanin "blue" or black shoulder (a deep, dark purple that appears where the fruit is exposed to sunlight) over a pink or orange-red epidermis. This creates a beautiful, sparkling, and contrasting appearance. The fruits are typically round, slightly flattened at the poles, and may have discreet ribbing at the shoulders.
There are a couple of variations of the Southern Sparkle tomato this one being the Regular Leaf variety this is the more common form, with standard tomato foliage rather than potato leaf.
Size: Medium to large fruits, generally ranging from 150 to 250 grams.
Flavour: Southern Sparkle are juicy with a good, balanced flavour not dissimilar to 'Sgt. Peppers', another popular antho variety by Blane Horton
.
Growth Habit: It is an indeterminate vining tomato, meaning the plant will continue to grow and produce fruit throughout the season until frost. It develops into a robust plant with significant growth.
Maturity: Mid-season, with typical ripening times around 110 days from seed sowing.
Productivity: a regular and good producer of fruit throughout the season.
'Southern Sparkle' is a fantastic choice for gardeners who appreciate unique, beautiful, and tasty tomatoes, especially those drawn to the fascinating "blue" or "black" varieties.
