Scarface Blues Tomato
'Scarface Blues' is a recent, open pollinated anthocyanin, tomato variety bred by the legendary American tomato breeder Tom Wagner. The name plays on its striking visual feature: a distinct, scarred or ribbed/bumpy surface set against a dark purple blue anthocyanin gradient. Flavour is excellent.
Fruit Characteristics & Appearance
Fruit Shape & Weight: Small to medium saladette or large cherry fruit, typically weighing 20 to 60 grams. The fruits are uniquely textured, often described as slightly ribbed, bumpy, or "scarred" (hence the name).
Colouration: A striking multi coloured display featuring a base skin that matures to a pink to raspberry red, heavily overlaid with deep purple/black anthocyanin ("blue") shoulders where exposed to direct sunlight.
Internal Flesh & Flavour: Juicy, tender pink/red flesh with a well balanced, spicy, sweet flavour profile and a pleasant hint of refreshing acid.
Growth
Growth Habit: Semi determinate vines reaching 0.7 to 1.3 m depending on the growing environment, container size, and any pruning.
Foliage: Regular leaf foliage.
Maturity: Mid season maturity, around 115 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit.
Sun Exposure: Requires direct sunlight on the ripening fruit clusters to trigger the bold blue/purple anthocyanin pigmentation on the skin.
