Scarface Blues Tomato

'Scarface Blues' is a recent, open pollinated anthocyanin, tomato variety bred by the legendary American tomato breeder Tom Wagner. The name plays on its striking visual feature: a distinct, scarred or ribbed/bumpy surface set against a dark purple blue anthocyanin gradient. Flavour is excellent.

Fruit Characteristics & Appearance

  • Fruit Shape & Weight: Small to medium saladette or large cherry fruit, typically weighing 20 to 60 grams. The fruits are uniquely textured, often described as slightly ribbed, bumpy, or "scarred" (hence the name).

  • Colouration: A striking multi coloured display featuring a base skin that matures to a pink to raspberry red, heavily overlaid with deep purple/black anthocyanin ("blue") shoulders where exposed to direct sunlight.

  • Internal Flesh & Flavour: Juicy, tender pink/red flesh with a well balanced, spicy, sweet flavour profile and a pleasant hint of refreshing acid.

Growth

  • Growth Habit: Semi determinate vines reaching 0.7 to 1.3 m depending on the growing environment, container size, and any pruning.

  • Foliage: Regular leaf foliage.

  • Maturity: Mid season maturity, around 115 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit.

  • Sun Exposure: Requires direct sunlight on the ripening fruit clusters to trigger the bold blue/purple anthocyanin pigmentation on the skin.
