Ordinary World Tomato
'Ordinary World' is a striking, open pollinated (future heirloom) tomato variety created by American breeder Bill Yoder. It is part of Yoder’s signature "Duran Duran Series", named after the iconic 1993 hit song Ordinary World by Duran Duran. Despite its name, the fruit's dramatic colours are anything but ordinary.
Fruit Appearance & Characteristics
Fruit Size & Shape: Medium saladette to small slicer size, typically weighing 85–200 grams The fruits are generally round to slightly flattened oblate globes.
Colouration: Features a dramatic, multi toned striped skin. The base colour ripens to a rich, dusky mahogany red, overlaid with metallic olive green and some striping, topped with dark purple/black anthocyanin splashes across the shoulders.
Internal Flesh: Red fleshed.
Flavour Profile
Taste: Bold, rich "black tomato" flavour. It is deeply complex, earthy, and smoky with a strong sweet to acid balance and a juicy finish.
Growth
Growth Habit: Indeterminate 1.5 to 1.8 m and require strong caging, stringing or trellising
Foliage: Regular leaf foliage.
Maturity: Mid-season, around 120 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit
Yield: Continuous cropper that sets heavy fruit clusters straight through into autumn.
