Märchennacht Tomato (10-15 seeds)

The 'Märchennacht' tomato variety is another intriguing creation from the "Märchen" (Fairy Tale) series by Kleverhof (Tim Unverhau and Lutz Unverhau) in Germany. Its name translates to "Fairy Tale Night," suggesting its dark and mysterious appearance.

  • Origin: Bred by Kleverhof in Germany, known for developing unique and often disease-resistant tomato varieties.

  • Appearance: This is its most striking feature. 'Märchennacht' produces fruits that ripen to a dark, almost black-brown colour, with purple-black shoulders (anthocyanin) where they are exposed to sunlight. Shiny skinned, the interior flesh is usually dark red or brownish-red.

  • Size: It produces medium-sized fruits, typically ranging from 80-150 grams . This places it in the saladette or small slicing tomato category.

  • Flavour: The flavour is aromatic, rich, and well-balanced, with a good combination of sweetness and acidity. Some dark-coloured tomatoes can have a smoky or earthy undertone, and 'Märchennacht' is appreciated for its good taste among these types.

  • Growth Habit: It is an indeterminate vining tomato. This means the plant will continue to grow, flower, and produce fruit throughout the entire growing season until it is stopped by frost. It tends to be a vigorous grower.

  • Maturity: It's a mid-season variety, typically maturing in around 110-120 days from seed sowing.

  • Disease Resistance: Like many varieties from the Kleverhof "Märchen" series, 'Märchennacht' is noted for its good resistance to late blight and other common tomato diseases, making it a more robust and reliable choice for gardeners.

  • Productivity: It's generally a good producer, yielding a consistent harvest of its unique fruits.

'Märchennacht' is an excellent choice for gardeners who are looking for a unique, dark-coloured tomato with good flavour and reliable disease resistance, adding visual interest and a rich taste to their harvest.
