Kiss The Sky Tomato

'Kiss the Sky' is an open pollinated large cherry/cocktail variety selected and stabilised between 2008 and 2012 by renowned Canadian tomato expert and seed saver Tatiana Kouchnareva. She bred and stabilized this line from the hybrid 'Purple Haze F1' (a famous Keith Mueller creation) and named it 'Kiss the Sky' as a direct play on the Jimi Hendrix song Purple Haze ("'scuse me while I kiss the sky").

Origin & Lineage

  • Stabiliser: Tatiana Kouchnareva (Anmore, BC, Canada).

  • Genetic Parentage: Open pollinated selection out of Purple Haze F1 (developed by Keith Mueller).

  • Naming Context: Named after the iconic lyric in Jimi Hendrix's track Purple Haze.

Fruit Characteristics & Flavour

  • Fruit Size & Weight: Large cherry to round plum/cocktail size, averaging 30 to 50 grams.

  • Colouration: Dark brownish purple to mahogany red skin with dark purple/olive green shoulders.

  • Internal Flesh: Deep purplish red flesh with dark green seed gel.

  • Flavour Profile: Outstanding "black tomato" taste. Rich, sweet, complex, and smoky with a pleasant fruitiness. 

Growth

  • Growth Habit: Indeterminate, 1.8–2.0 m requires staking, stringing or caging.

  • Foliage: Regular leaf foliage.

  • Maturity: Mid-season, around 115 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit.

  • Yield: Prolific, continuous producer until first frost.
