Harald Blåtand Tomato

Harald Blåtand (frequently spelled Harald Blatand, named after the 10th-century Danish Viking King Harald "Bluetooth" Gormsson) is a striking, high yielding plum/cocktail tomato variety. Flavour and productivity are both superb.

  • Breeder: Developed by Danish breeder Thomas Regin Sørensen, Denmark

  • Name & History: Named in honor of the legendary Danish monarch Harald Bluetooth (Harald Blåtand in Danish). Sørensen is well known in European tomato breeding circles for creating anthocyanin-rich, multi coloured lines

  • Direct Parentage: While Thomas Regin Sørensen has not explicitly published the precise cross for Harald Blåtand, its physical traits, multi striped skin, and dark anthocyanin shoulders tie it directly to his anthocyanin x bicolour/striped plum crosses

  • Growth Habit: Indeterminate vining habit. Plants are vigorous, growing up to 2m or more, making them suitable for greenhouse culture, outdoor garden beds, or large container growing

  • Fruit Type & Weight: Elongated plum to large cocktail-sized fruits weighing between 40g and 60g

  • Colouration: Multicoloured and highly visual, the base skin ripens through shades of rose red, orange, and yellow with subtle striping, topped with dark purple/black anthocyanin streaks on the shoulders where sun exposure is greatest

  • Flavour Profile: Exceptionally juicy and sweet with a pleasant, balancing acidity and rich fruity undertones. Thoroughly delicious.

  • Productivity: Prolific producer, yielding dense clusters from mid season continuously up until the autumn frosts.

  • Maturity: Mid season, seed sowing to ripe fruit around 115 days
