Elena's Emerald Caramel Tomato (10-15 seeds)
The 'Elena's Emerald Caramel' tomato is a truly spectacular variety, with its unique appearance and excellent flavour. It's another magnificent creation from Sophia Saakova in Russia, a breeder known for her innovative and beautiful tomato varieties.
Origin: Developed by Sophia Saakova in Russia. Its full Russian name is 'Izumrudnaya Karamel' Yeleny' .
Appearance: This is where the tomato truly shines. It's a tri-colour heart-shaped fruit, often with a pointed "nose" or elongated tip. The base colour is emerald green, which ripens to include pink and golden (or bronze/yellow) stripes and strokes. Crucially, it also features dark anthocyanin (indigo-blue/black) shoulders when exposed to direct sunlight. This combination of colours gives it a truly unique, almost marmalade-like, and "emerald caramel" appearance. The internal flesh is also multi-coloured, typically green with reddish or golden accents.
Size: It produces substantial fruits, generally weighing between 150-400 grams. This places it firmly in the large slicing or beefsteak category.
Flavour: Highly acclaimed for its taste, very sweet and fruity, often with a marmalade-like pulp and few seeds. The complex blend of colours is also reflected complex and rich flavour profile, balanced with a pleasant acidity.
Growth Habit: It is an indeterminate vining tomato. This means the plant will grow continuously throughout the season, producing fruit until frost. It's a vigorous grower, often reaching heights of 1.8 to 2.3 meters.
Maturity: Considered a mid-season variety, typically ripening in around 110-120 days from seed sowing.
Productivity: 'Elena's Emerald Caramel' is an excellent high-yielding variety, capable of producing fruit until late autumn.
'Elena's Emerald Caramel' is a must-have for tomato enthusiasts looking for a visually stunning, large, heart-shaped tomato with an incredibly sweet and complex flavour profile. It's a true showstopper in the garden and on the plate.
