Eight Ball Tomato (10-15 seeds)
The tomato variety 'Eight Ball' came from the ever fabulous Plant World Seeds.
Appearance: The fruits are a very dark black colour when they ripen, described by Plant World Seeds as "as black as the proverbial snooker ball." The fruits are consistently medium-sized and form impressive trusses of shiny golf ball sized fruits.
Interior and Flavour: They are red inside, with a strongly-flavoured, juicy blood-red flesh when sliced. The dark skin is packed with valuable anthocyanins. The more direct light available, the darker the colour.
Growth Habit: It is a cordon type tomato, meaning it is a vining variety that requires support (like staking or caging) and generally needs side-shoots removed.
Vigor and Production: The plants are exceedingly healthy and the fruits can stay on the vines for a long time, they can often be picked in late October and even through November, especially when grown in a greenhouse. Mid season onwards taking around 130 days from seed sowing to ripe fruit.
Fruit Shape/Texture: They are consistently near perfect spheres with strong skin which helps protect them from cracking.
Essentially, it's a unique-looking, dark, round tomato with strong flavour, health benefits (due to anthocyanins), and long cropping season.
