Dark Tiger Tomato (10-15 seeds)

The "Dark Tiger" tomato is a relatively new and exciting variety known for its striking appearance and good flavour. It's a creation from J&L Gardens in the USA.

  • Appearance: The tomatoes are small, rounded plum fruits, large cherry size, typically weighing between 60 and 100 grams. They are visually stunning, with a unique colouration. The shoulders of the fruit are a dark, almost black, purple-red colour due to the presence of anthocyanin, while the bottom ripens to a deep red, sometimes with hints of golden stripes. The skin has a shiny, smooth texture.

  • Flavour: Dark Tiger is well-balanced and has original tomato taste. It has a good blend of sweetness and tanginess. The flavour is excellent, especially for an "antho" variety.

  • Plant Type: This is an indeterminate variety, meaning the vines will continue to grow and produce fruit until the first frost. The plants are of a medium size, generally reaching a height of 100 to 180 cm, and have regular foliage.

  • Productivity: Dark Tiger is a high-yielding and productive variety, often producing a heavy crop from mid-season until the end of the growing season. It's considered a hardy variety that can be productive even in colder climates and adverse weather conditions.

  • Uses: Due to its size and flavour, it's a versatile tomato that's great for salads, fresh eating, garnishing, cooking, and even making sauces or paste.

Growing Tips:

  • Sunlight: Like all tomatoes, Dark Tiger needs full sun to thrive and develop its best colour and flavour.

  • Maturity: It is a mid-season variety, with the first fruits typically ripening in around 125 days from seed sowing.

  • Support: Since it's an indeterminate variety, it will benefit from a sturdy support system, such as a stringing, stake, cage, or trellis, to keep the vines and heavy fruit load off the ground.

  • Anthocyanin: The dark colouration is a result of anthocyanin, a powerful antioxidant. For the best development of this deep colour, ensure the plant receives plenty of sunlight.

  • Hardiness: This variety is noted for its hardiness and ability to produce well, making it a good choice for a variety of climates.
