Crow's Eye (Vorony Glaz) Micro Dwarf Tomato (10-15 seeds)
The 'Crow's Eye' micro dwarf tomato, often known by its Russian name 'Vorony Glaz' (Вороний Глаз), is a fascinating and visually unique variety within the micro dwarf category.
It shares the benefits of compact size with other micro dwarfs but stands out for its unique coloration.
Size (Plant): It is a true micro dwarf, typically growing to a compact, bushy height of about 20-35 cm. This makes it perfect for windowsills and small containers.
Fruit Colour: This is its most distinctive feature. The tomatoes are deep red to almost black with a striking dark-purple/anthocyanin neck (the shoulder of the fruit). The dark colouration is due to anthocyanin, an antioxidant pigment activated by sunlight.
Fruit Size & Shape: It produces cherry-sized fruits (around 1 to 2 cm across), which are often described as being slightly larger than a typical micro dwarf cherry, weighing about 15-20 grams each. The shape can be round to slightly fat and pointed.
Flavour: It has a sweet tomato flavour with a crunchy texture. As with many anthocyanin-rich (dark) tomatoes, the flavour can be complex.
Growth Habit: It is a determinate (bush) variety. Like most micro dwarfs, it grows to a set size, produces its crop in a concentrated period, and typically requires no staking or pruning of side shoots. If supporting at all, a couple of very small canes will suffice.
Maturity: It is a relatively early producer, usually ready for harvest around 90 to 100 days after sowing seeds.
Growing Suitability
Small Spaces: Excellent for growing on windowsills, balconies, patios, and in small 2-3 litre containers.
Indoor Growing: Its small stature makes it a great choice for growing indoors under lights year-round.
Decoration: The dark-coloured fruit against the compact green foliage makes it a very attractive and decorative edible plant.
If you are looking for a micro dwarf that provides a splash of unusual color in a small space, the 'Crow's Eye' or 'Vorony Glaz' is an excellent choice!
