Coastal Pride Orange Dwarf Tomato
Coastal Pride Orange is an open pollinated (future heirloom), dwarf tomato prized for its high yields, stocky growth habit, and delicious rich flavour.
Breeders: Developed in 2007 by the late Dan McMurray in Wynndel, British Columbia, Canada
Lineage: Part of McMurray’s popular "Coastal" dwarf series (which also includes Coastal Pride Red). It was developed from complex crosses involving hybrid and heirloom parents to create compact, bush type dwarf varieties with large, flavourful fruit
Growth Habit: Semi determinate dwarf (bush type). Sturdy, thick central stems with dark green, crinkled (rugose) regular foliage
Height: Typically grows 60–90 cm. Its compact habit makes it ideal for container gardening, patio pots, or small raised beds, though light staking is required when heavy with fruit
Maturity: Mid season, ripening roughly 115 days from seed sowing
Fruit Shape & Size: Produces medium to large slicing tomatoes ranging from 150g to 300g. Fruits are typically round to slightly flattened or subtle blunt heart shapes with smooth, blemish free skin
Colouration: Glowing, vibrant bright orange to deep golden orange skin and flesh with no green shoulders when fully ripe
Flavour Profile: Meaty, dense, and remarkably juicy. It has a well balanced profile, sweet with a mild, fruity aroma and just enough acidity to prevent it from tasting flat. It is widely considered one of the best tasting orange dwarf varieties available
