Blue Bayou Tomato (10-15 seeds)

The 'Blue Bayou' tomato is a unique and visually striking variety that was bred by renowned tomato breeder Tom Wagner from Washington.

  • Breeder: Tom Wagner. He is known for creating many unique and "blue" tomato varieties, which get their colour from high levels of anthocyanins.

  • Introduction: The 'Blue Bayou' tomato was publicly introduced in 2012.

  • Appearance: The 'Blue Bayou' tomato is famous for its stunning colour. The fruit has an orange-red base with prominent indigo-blue to dark purple or even black shoulders. This dark colouration is due to anthocyanin pigments, which develop where the fruit is exposed to direct sunlight. The more sun it gets, the darker the shoulders become. The contrast between the dark shoulders and the deep red lower portion is very striking. The fruits are typically round and slightly flattened, weighing around 50-100g.

  • Flavour: It offers a balanced flavour profile, with a mix of sweetness and tangy acidity. Some sources describe the taste as deep, fruity, and with a slightly smoky undertone.

  • Plant Type: 'Blue Bayou' is an indeterminate tomato variety. This means the plant will continue to grow, flower, and produce fruit throughout the entire growing season until the first frost.

  • Maturity: It is a mid-season variety, with fruits ripening in approximately 115 days after seed sowing

  • Sunlight: For the best colour development, the plants need full, direct sun exposure.

  • Support: Due to its indeterminate and vigorous growth, the plant requires strong support from strings, stakes or a cage to handle the weight of the fruit.

  • Ideal Climate: It is considered a good variety for northern climates and grows well both indoors and outdoors
