The ‘Beautiful Martian’ (also known by its Russian name, Прекрасный Марсианин or Красивая Марсианка) is currently a very rare tomato variety. It won't be for long though!
Origin & Breeder
Developed by Russian tomato breeder Sofia Saakova famous for her Sofia's Sweet Caramel variety
The variety was created by crossing two varieties - Rebel Starfighter Prime with Rescuers (Спасатели)
It is still an evolving cross currently nearly stabilised at F6, minor variations in fruit shape or striping can still occur
Variety Characteristics
Fruit Appearance: Plum to slight heart shaped fruit weighing around 50–100 grams around the size of a golf ball. Deep crimson/burgundy skin with metallic olive green stripes and a dark anthocyanin wash to the shoulders.
Flavour & Texture: Juicy and fleshy with a rich, well balanced sweet-and-sour taste and fruity undertones. When fully ripe, the flesh takes on a jammy, jelly-like texture.
Plant Habit: Indeterminate vines that easily reach 1.8–2.0 meters in height, producing complex clusters yielding 6–14 fruits that set well even under temperature fluctuations.
Mid Season first ripe fruits around 120 days after seed sowing.
