Asteria (XGGAu)Tomato
Now officially given the name Asteria, now a F7 variety bred by Lukas Wallmann of Open Breeding, as a cross between the Xanadu Green Goddess and Auriga varieties - hence the development name XGGAu. It features striking anthocyanin colouring with stripes, a high Brix sweetness rating of 9–10, and a complex flavour profile of sweetness, umami, and spice.
Key Traits & Characteristics
Lineage & Origin: The designation "XGGAu" reflects its pedigree—bred from a cross between Xanadu Green Goddess and Auriga.
Appearance: Asteria produces medium-sized sliced/beefsteak fruits featuring heavy dark indigo/purple anthocyanin shoulders where sun hits the skin. As it ripens, the base transitions to terracotta red, deep brick, and amber hues with subtle metallic striping.
Flavour Profile: Balanced and complex with deep, rich, smoky sweet notes offset by a bright acidity. The interior flesh is gel-rich, meaty, and vibrant. Overall a sublime flavour profile!
Growth Habit: Indeterminate vining habit with regular foliage. It benefits from sturdy staking or caging and performs best in full sun, which enhances the dark anthocyanin skin pigmentation.
Maturity: Around 110 days from seed sowing to first ripe fruits.
